STOCKTON, Calif. — Businessman, County Supervisor and candidate for Stockton Mayor Tom Patti hit the streets Sunday in a last-minute effort to win votes in a North Stockton neighborhood.
"We are canvassing. We are walking, knocking and talking with voters. We're actually very motivated," Patti said. "We've got a lot of momentum."
Just days before voters will decide his and the city's fate, Patti said he's excited.
"We're getting fantastic feedback, and that's the real key. Our message has resonated," Patti said. "There are challenges in our great city, and we're going to meet them."
In previous interviews, Patti said his top issue is homelessness. His opponent, high school administrator and former Vice Mayor Christina Fugazi, said hers is public safety.
While neither she nor her campaign responded to inquiries about Sunday's campaign stops, Fugazi spent Friday at a meet-and-greet at a pizza shop in South Stockton and Saturday evening at a virtual town hall with other city council candidates.
"I want everybody to participate," said Fugazi of her final message to voters during an ABC10 interview in October. "When people say, 'Oh, government doesn't represent me. They don't care about my voice. They don't care what I want.' Well, your vote is your voice."
In his final message to voters, Patti echoed the same message.
"It's this great privilege we have in America," Patti said. "This republic we have is only strong with your participation."
The participation has already begun with voters like Teresa Green turning in their ballots early.
"I feel like it's very important this election year. We really need to make sure we vote because every vote counts," Green said. "May the best person win."
In San Joaquin County, traditional in-person polling places are only open on Election Day, Tuesday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
However, for people looking to vote early, all registered voters were mailed a vote-by-mail ballot, which can be postmarked on or before Election Day or dropped off at any of the 25 ballot drop box locations across the county.
