Man hurt in Stockton shooting

Authorities are still searching for the shooter involved.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A shooting near a homeless encampment in Stockton injured a man and forced a school to go on a soft lockdown Wednesday.

At 12:53 p.m., Stockton Police Department was called to the Mormon Slough at California Street on reports of a shooting. Officers said that when they got to the scene, they found a 56-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

Police said the man was taken to an area hospital, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe the victim was talking to a woman in the area when that woman's boyfriend became jealous and shot the victim.

Spanos Elementary School, across the street from the scene, was placed on a temporary soft lockdown following the shooting. The lockdown has since been lifted. School district officials said the school itself was not involved in the shooting.

The suspect was described as an unknown race male. Those with information are asked to call investigators at  209-937-8377.
