Mother's Day shooting leaves 5-year-old girl, two others dead

An apartment was filled with family members celebrating Mother's Day when suddenly there was gunfire.

Bullet holes tell the story of what happened in Stockton shortly after 10 o'clock Sunday night.

An apartment was filled with family members celebrating Mother's Day when suddenly there was gunfire.

"My daughter and boyfriend come to my house and say mom they have shooting," said Chong Her, a relative of the victims.

Joe C Lor, 22, Gina Xiong, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene. 5-year-old Kayleen Lor died later at the hospital. Two other men were also struck, they are still being treated at the hospital.

Neighbors say they heard multiple gunshots.

One neighbor simply thought it was firecrackers on Mother's Day.

Candy Mabanag lives three blocks away and was on the phone when it happened.

"The amount of gun violence we saw that tore apart that family in a matter of minutes on Mother's Day is something that goes beyond words for how tragic that is for our community," said Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones at an afternoon news conference in his office.

As for a motive, police are not saying whether it is gang related. They just say they are not ruling anything out.

They are asking for anyone who has a tip to call them or Crime Stoppers.

In the meantime, Stockton Police have positioned a special vehicle across from the apartment complex that has 360-degree cameras to keep an eye on things 24/7.

"We just want to ensure that there is no continued violence or retaliation in the area and we also hope to bring some amount of safety, whether it be perceived or real safety to that neighborhood because they deserve it," said Chief Jones.
