Man killed in Stockton motorcycle crash. CHP says alcohol may be factor

The man was riding a Harley Davidson at 80 mph in the left-most lane before he collided with a vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Saturday night in Stockton, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Just after 8:30 p.m., a 56-year-old man riding a 2017 Harley Davidson southbound on Highway 99, south of Wilson Way, was reportedly traveling at 80 mph in the left-most lane, according to CHP Stockton spokesman Angel Arceo.

A 43-year-old woman was driving a 2022 Toyota at 65 mph in the next lane near the motorcyclist, CHP said. She reportedly had two passengers in their 70s with her in the car.

While traveling at an unsafe speed, the motorcyclist reportedly changed lanes and began driving directly behind the Toyota, according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist braked hard, lost control of his motorcycle and collided into the rear of the Toyota, law enforcement said. The motorcycle then collided with the roadway, and the man was ejected, authorities said.

He sustained fatal injuries from the crash, and his motorcycle came to a rest in the #3 lane, according to law enforcement.

Authorities said the Toyota came to a stop on the right shoulder. Its driver and two passengers were all wearing seat belts and did not sustain any injuries. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, CHP said.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, according to the CHP.
