STOCKTON, Calif. — A Stockton Police Department officer opened fire on a stabbing suspect in south Stockton Saturday morning, officials said.
According to police, two officers were called to the 1500 block of Eleventh Street after 9 a.m. Saturday. Dispatchers said that someone reported that their parents were in an argument and that his or her dad was going to stab their mom.
When the officers got to the area, they saw the accused stabber and shot him. It's unclear what led up to the shooting or if any words were exchanged between officers and the suspect.
Medics took the man and woman to a hospital. The man had at least one gunshot wound and is in critical condition, police said.
The woman is in stable condition after suffering multiple stab wounds. Five children between the ages of 3 and 16 were at the apartment and taken into police custody, officials said.
"We want to give obviously the victims the justice by taking our time and conducting a thorough investigation to make sure there's no rock left unturned," said Stockton Police Public Information Officer Omer Edhah.
No officers were injured in the stabbing or shooting. The Stockton Police Department, San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office, San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office and the state's Department of Justice are investigating the case.
