STOCKTON, Calif — Nearly 10,000 people are expected to flood downtown Stockton Thursday night as Mexican artist Peso Pluma brings his "Doble P" tour to the Stockton Arena, venue officials said.
As thousands of fans prepare to belt out hits such as "Ella Baila Sola" and "Por Las Noches," Michael Huber, executive director of the Downtown Stockton Alliance, is getting ready to see a possible boost in business.
"It's exciting because of all the people that are going to come and see the show," said Huber. "The restaurants have brought in extra staffing, food and it's just going to be a great event."
As of Wednesday afternoon, the cheapest tickets in the arena were on resale for $139 each. The Stockton concert will be one of only two Northern California stops on Peso Pluma's "Doble P" tour. The second concert in Northern California will be held in San Jose on Friday.
"Any time we can have a show this large, it brings people from out of town here so they get to see beautiful downtown Stockton and get rid of some of the misconceptions we have downtown," said Huber. "In downtown, we've prepared all of our restaurants and businesses for this large crowd."
Huber is hoping that visitors will spend some of their money in the downtown district before and after the concert, adding that the boost in business could bring in thousands of dollars to business owners and the city.
"We've got some great restaurants and great establishments for having a cocktail before or after the show," said Huber. "Coming out of the pandemic a lot of the restaurants suffered so it's great to see their pockets being filled again with customers and their disposable income."
In a Facebook post, the Stockton Police Department said that Fremont Street, which runs in front of the arena, will be closed between Commerce Street and Edison Street from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday due to the concert.
According to the department, several officers have been scheduled to work the event and provide extra presence downtown. The Downtown Stockton Alliance also plans to increase the number of "safety ambassadors" in the area.
The Stockton Arena said that attendees should expect heavy traffic and that no bags will be allowed inside the concert.
Doors will open at the arena at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The concert is expected to begin at 8 p.m.
