Richard West identified as missing man pulled from levee in Stockton

Deputies were initially trying to pull vehicles from the delta when one of the cars ended up being registered to a missing person in 2007.

STOCKTON, Calif. — The body pulled from a Stockton levee in August was identified as Richard West, 98.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office confirmed the man's identity with ABC10 Wednesday. The sheriff's office previously said the body was found in one of the cars they were removing from the levee near 8 Mile Road.

Officials said the discovery was made during a joint operation with the Boating Safety Unit and the Sacramento County Sheriff Dive team. Deputies were initially trying to pull vehicles from the delta when one of the cars ended up being registered to a missing person in 2007. At the time, the person's name was not released.

The sheriff's office confirmed West is the same person who went missing back in February of 2007.
