Here's where to take kids to collect candy safely ahead of the spookiest night of the year

But for parents and families looking for a safer alternative, some organizations throughout the city are hosting safe trick-or treating events this this October ahead of the spookiest night of the year.

Parents by Choice, a non-profit which provides support for foster youth in Stockton, will be hosting its 3rd annual Safe Trick-or-Treat on Friday, Oct. 27 in downtown.

Safe Trick-or-Treat will be hosted at the Courthouse Plaza 306 E. Main Street.

Along with the opportunity for tons of free candy, it will also fetaure a market with local vendors, games and haunted alley, which Parents by Choice Director Tony Yadon describes as "PG" and suitable for all ages.

"It's three floors of candy, games and activities," said Yadon

This will be the third year Parent's by Choice has held this event for the community in the organization's 70,000 square-foot building.

"First, we started looking at things for our families that we work with, either through our foster care program or our positive parenting program, an activity for those families," said Yadon. "And then we just opened it up to the entire community, because we have the space."

The event has free admission and is open to all families and participants of all ages. Street parking in downtown is free after 5 p.m.

Local law enforcement will be participating in the event as well as safety ambassadors from the Downtown Stockton Alliance to ensure a safe trick-or-treat for attendees.

"It's really just a way for us to be a good neighbor in the community," said Yadon.
