San Joaquin County election results: Here’s where races stand so far

The polls close at 8 p.m. and the unofficial results will start coming in not long afterward.

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — Election night is here for San Joaquin County. The Nov. 5 election will decide who becomes the next mayor of cities like Stockton and Tracy.

The polls close at 8 p.m. and the unofficial results will start coming in not long afterward. After the first wave, results will be reported every two hours until all poll ballots have been reported.

Updates will continue Monday, Wednesday and Fridays by 7 p.m. until every vote has been counted.

Our primary goal is to conduct an election that is both accurate and transparent,” said Olivia Hale, San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters. “We understand the importance of timely updates, but we also emphasize the need for careful and thorough counting procedures. Our dedicated team is committed to ensuring that every vote is counted and that the results reflect the will of the voters.”

When do we find out who won the election?

Voters will start to see results not long after 8 p.m., but keep in mind, these aren't the final results. Every number seen on election night are unofficial results.

While some elections might be called on election night, that's generally a projection from media outlets or experts. Governments don't call elections. Mail-in ballots, provisional ballots, ballots from registered voters in the military deployed over seas and more all get counted for the final result.

The last day for counties to certify results is Dec. 5. The Secretary of State will then have until Dec. 7 to certify the vote, with the Statement of Vote  certified on Dec. 13.
