Showered with love: How a Stockton nonprofit is helping homeless residents with hot water and essentials

The bus, which is currently being outfitted by Maxi Trailers in Stockton, will feature three shower stalls and two shaving stations.

STOCKTON, Calif — A hot shower and clean underwear. Those basic essentials will soon be available to Stockton and Lodi area homeless residents through a new nonprofit converting a bus into a mobile bathroom.

Showered With Love is retrofitting a 20 passenger bus into a safe, clean place for homeless men and women to get a hot shower. The bus, which is currently being outfitted by Maxi Trailers in Stockton, will feature three shower stalls and two shaving stations.

Everyone who visits Showered With Love will receive fresh socks and underwear, and all of the hygiene supplies needed for showering.

Spearheaded by Mary Jerrard, Showered With Love was inspired by her time as a thrift store volunteer, where she would see homeless people using the store’s restroom to clean themselves.

Jerrard has since inspired friends to join the cause, and said she hopes a visit to their bus will be more than just a warm shower, but a step on the path out of homelessness.

This labor of love is funded by the generosity of others. To make donations easier, there is an Amazon wish list filled with items like socks, underwear, and soap, as well as the ability to donate via PayPal and Venmo.
