3 killed in separate Stockton shootings on Saturday identified

Investigators do not believe any of the Saturday homicide cases are connected.

STOCKTON, Calif. — The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the three people killed in three separate Saturday shootings.

The first shooting happened around 1 a.m. Saturday on Wood Duck Circle at Quail Lakes Drive. Police found a man dead from a gunshot wound inside a crashed car. He was identified as 21-year-old Boivae Martinez Jr. of Stockton.

Police say a shootout happened between multiple groups on Astor Drive around 2:30 p.m. A 50-year-old man was taken to the hospital and two 19-year-old women showed up at the hospital.

While on scene, deputies saw a vehicle possibly involved in the incident and a chase happened that ended on Harding Way at California Street. One of the men inside the car, 18-year-old David Perez of Stockton, died from his injuries at the hospital.

Then, a man was found shot to death in his car on Jackson Street near Wilson Way around 3 p.m. He was identified as 36-year-old Brady Thornton of Stockton.

Despite the violent weekend, Stockton police have reported 13 homicides so far in 2024, six fewer cases than were reported at the same time in 2023.

Investigators do not believe that any of the weekend homicide cases are connected.
