Stockton Unified cancels classes due to winter storm

Classes are canceled for Stockton Unified students on Monday.

STOCKTON, Calif. — Extreme winds and rain have canceled class for students in the Stockton Unified School District.

In a news release, the Stockton Unified School District said extreme weather conditions are canceling school on Monday, Jan. 9. 

"We are in direct communication with state and local emergency officials.  We will continue to work closely with Office of Emergency Services and state officials to keep you updated," school officials said.

The district said they will continue to provide updates at their website, www.stocktonusd.net.

The cancelation comes as the region bears the brunt of yet another atmospheric river, bring in inches of rain and strong gusts of wind. Early Sunday, power blacked out for hundreds of thousands of customers in the Sacramento region and in some areas in Stockton.
