Stockton woman dies after SUV veers off Hwy 99

A 35-year-old woman and a 57-year-old passenger were heading south on Hwy 99 in a 2004 Buick Rainier when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A Stockton woman died after crashing her SUV into a demolition contractor's equipment off Highway 99.

On Sept. 1, the 35-year-old was traveling with a 57-year-old female passenger on Highway 99 in a 2004 Buick Rainier.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the two were approaching Cherokee Road when the driver made an unsafe turn and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and strike through a chain link fence. It's not clear why the driver made the unsafe turn.

The SUV crashed into large equipment stored at a demolition contractor, W.C. Maloney, at 4020 Newton Road, according to CHP.

The two women were taken to a hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead. The passenger sustained only minor injuries.

CHP said it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
