Woman dies after crashing into two other vehicles in Stockton

CHP said for unknown reasons a Toyota driver made an unsafe lane change, lost control and collided with two vehicles before going over an embankment.

STOCKTON, Calif. — A woman is dead after making an unsafe lane change and losing control of her vehicle Sunday evening in Stockton, the California Highway Patrol said.

Around 7 p.m., a 54-year-old Tracy woman drove a 2002 Toyota south on Interstate 5 approaching French Camp Road, according to CHP’s Stockton office. To her left, in the #1 lane, was a 2019 Dodge, and a 2024 Acura was in the lane to her right, law enforcement said.

CHP said for unknown reasons, the woman made an unsafe lane change, lost control and entered the #1 lane where she hit the right side of the Dodge. She then veered into the lane to her right and struck the left side of the Acura, authorities said.

The Toyota reportedly continued to the right, struck a guardrail, went through it and overturned down an embankment. The vehicle came to a rest on its roof on the French Camp Road on-ramp to southbound I-5, CHP said.

The Acura hit the Dodge and the two vehicles came to a rest at the shoulder, according to law enforcement. The drivers, both Stockton men, suffered minor injuries.

The Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and it’s unclear whether alcohol or drugs factored in the crash, according to the CHP.
