SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a stabbing involving two students, Monday.
According to police, it happened around noon on the 2700 block of 9th Avenue at Bret Harte Elementary School.
Upon arrival, officers found one victim with a stab wound.
A note sent to families by principal Roxanne Wolfe says it happened inside a 5th and 6th grade split class, and the weapon used was a small kitchen knife.
Wolfe says the student’s injuries are non-life-threatening and they are expected to recover. As for the student accused of stabbing the other student, Wolfe says they will be referred to disciplinary action and potential legal consequences.
“This is both shocking and profoundly scary for our entire school community. Our priority right now is to focus on the recovery of the injured student and provide emotional support for any students who witnessed the incident. Counselors will be on campus throughout the day for as long as needed. If your student needs any assistance in this difficult time, please contact the school office,” wrote Wolfe.
The Sacramento Police Department is leading the investigation into the stabbing.
