17 students injured after big rig driver rear-ends school bus in Stanislaus County

CHP says the bus was stopped with flashing red lights and stop sign activated when a big rig driver rear-ended a sedan and the bus.

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — More than a dozen students were injured Tuesday when a big rig rear-ended their school bus in Stanislaus County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 17 students were hurt just before 7 a.m. on Crows Landing Road, north of El Katrina Lane.

CHP says the bus was stopped with its flashing red lights and stop sign activated. The driver of a Honda sedan was stopped behind it.

CHP says the big-rig driver didn’t see the stopped bus in front of them and hit the rear of the sedan before hitting the rear of the bus.

All 17 elementary-aged students onboard had minor injuries from the crash. None required hospitalization.

The big rig driver and person driving the sedan were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

It’s unclear what charges, if any, the big rig driver might face in the crash.
