Swimming banned in Lodi Lake before Fourth of July 'until further notice'

The temporary ban on swimming was caused by increased and unsafe bacteria in the water due to the triple-digit heat.

LODI, Calif. — Lodi Lake is closed due to triple-digit temperatures increasing bacteria and making the water unsafe for swimmers a day before the Fourth of July.

The Lodi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services says all swimming is banned "until further notice." Officials say they found the increased bacteria levels when doing routine testing of the water.

There is no estimated time of the lake reopening, but officials say anyone wanting to stay on the beach or in the wading pool area can. The Enze Pool will also be open from 2-6 p.m. Thursday for the Fourth of July.

The temporary ban on swimming comes as the lake was about to debut its new area with improved pavement for the parking lot, underground utility upgrades, new concrete paths of travel, new restrooms, playground equipment and more. The "4th of July at the Lake, An American Festival" is set to be held at the lake and has not changed plans due to this update.

Attendees heading to the lake Thursday should know there's a $5 daily parking fee and a $13 entrance fee for the boat launch. Find more information HERE

Lodi Boathouse rentals will not be affected by this temporary closure. Find more information, including how to rent items HERE
