MODESTO, Calif. — A 16-year-old is in custody after a fatal 2022 shooting in Modesto.
According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened Sept. 2022 on Imperial Avenue.
Upon arrival, deputies found Scott Bates Jr. with a gunshot wound in a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office says the motive is still unknown but investigators identified a Modesto 16-year-old as the suspect.
The teen suspect was arrested last Wednesday and booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of homicide.
