WOODLAND, Calif. — A teen was convicted last week in a 2023 Woodland crash that left a woman and her granddaughter dead and several others injured.
According to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, the teen was convicted on several counts including vehicular manslaughter.
A disposition hearing is scheduled for May 23-24, 2024. The district attorney’s office says the teen’s maximum punishment is wardship until he’s 21.
CASE HISTORY
The crash happened on April 8, 2023, near Court and College streets in Woodland.
Police say an officer saw a vehicle being driven erratically and they tried to pull it over. It ended at the intersection when the car collided with two other vehicles, causing them to catch fire.
One person died at the scene while almost a dozen other people were injured.
Police later said the driver that caused the crash was a 13-year-old boy driving a car he stole from a family member.
The woman who died that day was identified by her childhood friend as Tina Vital. ABC10 learned Vital had just attended a Celebration of Life for another longtime friend before the crash happened.
Vital’s granddaughter, 4-year-old Adalina, died days later from her injuries in the crash.
