NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. — A 15-year-old died Saturday after an ATV crash on private property in Nevada County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday off Hillside Terrace, east of Dog Bar Road in the southern end of the county.
CHP says a helicopter responded and took a 15-year-old male passenger with major head trauma to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. He died from his injuries at the hospital.
CHP identified the teen as Nathan Cavolt.
Bear River Baseball posted about his death:
It is with heavy hearts that we report we have lost one of our own. Nathan was a tremendous young man and a spark plug as a part of the Bear River Baseball program. He had a tremendous smile, flowing hair, and always wore his signature puka shell necklace. We are going to miss him dearly.
The 14-year-old driving the ATV was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
CHP says the crash is under investigation and neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected factors.
