The 4 new businesses revitalizing K Street

Food, drinks, and dresses: new businesses to check out in Sacramento.

Interested in getting intel on the freshest new spots downtown? From a two-story bar to a bridal spot, read on for the newest establishments to open for business in this area of Sacramento.

Tiger

722 K St.

Tiger

Tiger, at 722 K Street, is a dim sum-style restaurant and bar brought to Downtown Commons by the team behind Red Rabbit, as we recently reported. The mostly-subterranean space also hosts private events.

Chef Eric Sarmento is offering small, shareable plates on carts that make their way around the mostly-subterranean dining room. Beer, wine, and cocktails are also delivered by cart, and each drink is mixed and served tableside, according to the Sacramento Bee.

As for the plates, they include bulgogi sliders, pickled deviled eggs, and shrimp salad. Larger, made-to-order food like a bone-in ribeye and a whole grilled bass with fennel and almond is also available. (See the full menu here.)

The bar's current Yelp rating of 4.5 stars out of 10 reviews indicates positive attention from users thus far.

Yelper Jeff A., who reviewed Tiger on November 11, wrote, "Walked in and was immediately wowed by the space itself - modern, energetic, fun - great design touches all over. Most of the space is sunken below street level, flanked above by a horseshoe balcony and videos projected on the wall above. The effect is really cool, you feel like you're in a hip urban speakeasy."

And Jenny P. said, "I need to let you know that the Mac n Cheese they make is dangerously cheesy. It's the best I've had in a long time. We ordered some with lamb, which was cooked perfectly."

Tiger is open from 3 p.m.–2 a.m. daily.

The Pizza Press

405 K St., Suite 240

Pizza Press

The Pizza Press, at 405 K St., Suite 240, is the newest location of the Anaheim-based, vintage newspaper-themed fast-casual pizza chain.

Diners can customize dough, sauce, dressing and more on their 11-inch, personal size pizzas if they wish, or choose from one of half a dozen signature styles. A few choices cost extra, like gluten-free dough and vegan cheese.

The signature pizzas are named after newspapers like the Chronicle, featuring artichoke hearts, roasted red bell peppers, crimini mushrooms, and chèvre; the Times (with chicken, smoked gouda and barbecue sauce). You can check out the full menu here.

With a current rating of four stars out of 29 reviews on Yelp, the "publisher" has seen a solid reception.

Yelper Carol P. wrote of the speedy delivery, "By the time I got our drinks from the soda fountain and found a table, his pizza was ready! Fast, I tell ya! I like that most of the toppings were chopped up in smaller pieces, and they had a nice variety of meats, veggies, cheeses, and sauces."

"Super fresh! Tasty! They have a really cute theme (newspaper) and decor," Yelper Jamie C. added, "Staff were extra friendly and personable."

The Pizza Press is open from 11 a.m.–1 a.m. daily.

The Grid

1000 K St.

The Grid

The Grid is a bar and New American spot at 1000 K St. As we recently reported, chef Kevin Souza is taking inspiration for many of its dishes from the kitchens of other popular Downtown Sacramento restaurants where he or friends have cooked.

Diners can expect to find plenty of autumnal food on the menu, like a braised pork shoulder with seasonal vegetables, chicken thighs with squash and spiced apples, or flat iron steak with cheddar polenta and root veggies. You can check out all the offerings here.

The Grid's current rating of 3.5 stars out of 32 reviews on Yelp indicates the newcomer is finding its way, but it's still early days.

"The special, a pulled pork sandwich, took about 20-30 minutes to come out of the kitchen despite the place being pretty much empty," Chris L. noted, echoing other Yelpers' complaints of the service. "Between it all — the wait, the food, and the presentation of the food — it was very underwhelming."

But Yelper Lucas A. was more positive about the food: "The chicken was juicy and plentiful, the apples had just enough of that apple spice to give it that sweet, autumnal kick without being too overpowering, and the squash was delicious across the board."

The Grid is open from 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.–1 a.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.–1 a.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m.–2 p.m. on Sunday.

Lena's Dresses

717 K St., Suite 512

Lena's Dresses

Lena's Dresses is a bridal spot specializing in affordable gowns. Although mostly an online shop (you can view the website here), it now has a brick and mortar location on K Street for dress fittings.

In addition to bridal gowns, the store sells shoes, bridesmaid dresses and flower girl dresses.

With just one review on Yelp so far, the bridal shop has at least one satisfied customer.

Yelper Snizhana S. wrote, "I'm so happy with my dress. Lena was very helpful and understood what I needed. She found my perfect dress for the fraction of the cost compared to other stores!"

Lena's Dresses is open from 5:30 p.m.–8 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m.–3 p.m. on weekends.
