CALIFORNIA, USA — Which is the best company to work for in California? Forbes and a research firm recently released the survey results ranking the best employers in every state.

They surveyed 160,000 employees who work for companies with at least 500 people. And when it comes to the best in California, an Ohio-based insurance provider tops the list.

Progressive came in at No. 1 on the Forbes list of the best employers in the Golden State. The insurance holding company, which was founded in 1937, provides personal and commercial insurance.

According to Forbes, the insurance provider employs more than 61,000 workers.

Another California favorite came in near the top of the list and it's based in the state, too.

In-N-Out was ranked No. 2 best employer in California just ahead of Mountain View-based Google. The fast-food chain was founded in 1948, and Lysni Synder is the CEO & President of the restaurant.

The fast-food chain, which is headquartered in Irvine, employs around 27,000 workers.

NVIDIA, based in Santa Clara, and Microsoft, based in Washington state, round out the top 5.

Michigan-based Ford Motor took the No. 6 spot and Apple, based in Cupertino, ranked No.7. Caltech, based in Pasadena, was ranked No.8, and Sony, based in Tokyo, ranked No.9. Rounding out the top 10 was Nike, which is based in Oregon.

Other notable California-based entries on the list include LinkedIn (No. 11), Stanford University (No. 15) and UC Davis Health (No. 20). Further on down the list is Caltrans at No. 38 and Sutter Health at No. 50.
