Till Death Do Us Part: 'The Last Bride' wraps up filming in Sacramento

Described by Mark S. Allen as 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' meets '90 Day Fiancé,' 'The Last Bride' follows a journalist caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — "The Last Bride" is a horror movie directed by Sacramento-based filmmaker Nick Leisure ("Last the Night," "A Clear Shot") about a journalist after she discovers a dark ritual while on a retreat.

ABC10's Mark S. Allen went to the set of "The Last Bride" to get a sneak peek. Doesn't he know it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding?

HERE ARE 3 THINGS TO KNOW:

  1. While Mark describes the movie as 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' meets '90 Day Fiancé,' lead actress Charlotte Kirk revealed that he wasn't far off from the true inspiration.

"[It's] kind of inspired by the famous musical in the 50s 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.' It's kind of based on that loosely. That was the inspiration for it."

  2. The movie was filmed in both Sacramento and Placerville, with some local locations being spookier than others.

"There's rumors that some of the locations are haunted as well, so it goes with the theme of the movie," said Kirk.

Despite the haunting, however, Kirk has enjoyed her time in the area.

"The weather not so much, but everything else is great," she explained. "The people, the locations, everything has been amazing in my first time filming here. I'm loving the experience."

  3. "The Last Bride" director Nick Leisure is a familiar face to the Sacramento film scene. Leisure was born and is based out of Sacramento, working through his studio Leisure Films. He is known for directing films "Last the Night," "Janitors," and "A Clear Shot." He will also have three films, including "The Last Bride" releasing in 2025.
