Thieves caught on camera nearly running over man after truck break-in in Arden-Arcade

A father of three in Arden-Arcade is devastated after thieves stole thousands of dollars’ worth of tools from his work truck around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A father of three in Arden-Arcade is devastated after thieves stole thousands of dollars’ worth of tools from his work truck early Tuesday morning. He’s now asking his community to stay alert and help find those responsible.

It was about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when Theris Jori heard something strange outside.

"I heard something going on outside and I looked out my window and I saw a car across the street," said Jori. "They looked like they were up to no good, so I woke him up."

Surveillance video shows Jori and her husband, Robert Harrison, running outside to see what it was, but they were too late.

By the time the couple got outside, thieves had already smashed the windows of Harrison’s work truck and stole all his DEWALT tools.

"Went to sleep and she woke me up and just instant terror. I knew, I was just like someone ripped my chest out, you know? I worked so hard to buy these tools and everything to provide for my family. For people to come and just do stuff like that is sickening,” said Harrison.

The father of three is a crew leader for a construction company. He says the thieves drove away so fast they nearly ran him over as they made off with more than $4,000 worth of tools.

Harrison says he usually stores his tools inside, but that night he didn’t feel the best after working in the rain and fell asleep.

Now the family is left with an enormous loss right before the holidays.

"Just try to stay focused on them (family), try not to let this stress me out, which I am not going to lie, it's hard," he said. "It's very hard but I can't let it reflect onto my family."

The family didn’t have insurance on the tools, so they’ll have to replace them out of pocket. They’re trying to figure out how to make ends meet while questioning why someone would want to do this.

"You see children and you're going to take from them, and not only did you take from them, but you tried to run their dad down, tried to take his life over some tools. Come on now," said Harrison. "I just ask the suspects to think about if it was them or their family. How would they feel?"

Harrison filed a report with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office told ABC10 they’re looking into the case.

In the meantime, if you saw anything or have any information, the family is asking you to contact the authorities.

They’ve also started a GoFundMe to help replace the tools.
