LODI, Calif. — A Tokay High School teacher was arrested Thursday afternoon for a sex crime involving a minor.
According to the Lodi Police Department, detectives arrested 23-year-old Sean Sorbera on suspicion of unlawful intercourse with a person under 16-years-old.
Police say they notified the district at the start of their investigation, and Sorbera was put on administrative leave. They ultimately found enough cause to arrest him.
Police say the alleged crime happened off-campus, and there’s no evidence anything happened on school grounds.
According to a Tokay High School staff directory, Sorbera is an English teacher.
Lodi Unified School District (LUSD) says Sorbera remains on administrative leave as both the district and police continue their investigation.
"We are fully cooperating with the Lodi Police Department. If you have any information to share, please contact Detective Kris Valencia at kvalencia@lodi.gov. We will continue to provide updates in conjunction with Lodi PD as more information becomes available," the district said.
“As a public educational agency, it is our duty to protect our students and ensure they are in safe learning environments on our school campuses. We understand that this situation is difficult to process and upsetting for our entire community. We ask that if your child needs support during this time, please contact your school counselor or administrative staff,” the district continued.
