TRACY, Calif. — A worker at a Tracy sugar plant was killed Saturday after falling into a silo, fire officials said.
Firefighters say they received reports of someone falling into a large silo at the Holly Sugar plant near Holly Drive and Sugar Road around 10:20 a.m.
The worker fell nearly 80 feet into machinery at the bottom of the silo, officials said. He did not survive.
Over the course of an hour, 16 first responders developed plans and used a rope system to get to the worker. The cause of the fall is under investigation, according to fire officials.
