MODESTO, Calif. — Frozen novelty maker Tropicale Foods is closing its Modesto plant this summer.
According to Tropicale Foods, the Modesto plant will close July 19 as the company moves production to its new Lubbock, Texas plant and existing facility in Ontario, California.
The company said the closing of the Modesto plant won’t impact the company’s ability to produce product for customers.
“The decision to close was difficult because of its human impact. Tropicale is committed to treating the Modesto employees with dignity and respect and is providing transition benefits,” the company told ABC10.
The total headcount in Modesto is 290.
Tropicale Foods oversees two brands – Helados Mexico and La Michoacana – both make paletas.
