TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. — Sheriff's deputies in Tuolumne County are looking for a missing man last seen Sunday going over a waterfall.
Around 10:15 a.m., deputies with the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to Cleo’s Bath, east of Pinecrest Lake, for a man who reportedly fell in the water.
The man was hiking near the upper portion of Cleo’s Bath with friends when he slipped on rocks and fell into turbulent water above a waterfall, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities said he was last seen going over the waterfall.
The search continued Monday with no sign of the missing man, according to the sheriff’s office.
The heavy current reportedly prevented rescuers from safely accessing the area on foot, and the conditions were too dangerous for Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue (SAR) team divers.
The SAR team, a Cal Fire helicopter, California Department of Fish and Wildlife and members of the U.S. Forest Service began searching the area immediately Sunday, authorities said.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office said it wants to remind the public about the dangers of swift water and fast-flowing rivers.
“We urge everyone to use caution while enjoying our waterways,” the office said in a statement.
