Road in Tuolumne County reopens after officials remove 'explosive' from yard

Strauch Drive was closed on both ends and all residents along the road have been asked to shelter-in-place while officials work.

TWAIN HARTE, Calif. — 5 p.m. update: The shelter-in-place was lifted around 5 p.m.

Original story: Twain Harte residents are being asked to shelter in place while the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office removes a "live hand grenade" from a yard.

Officials say they were called to the area of Strauch Drive after a resident called to alert them of finding the grenade. The Calaveras County Bomb Squad is assisting deputies in removing the explosive. 

Strauch Drive is closed on both ends and all residents along the road have been asked to shelter-in-place while officials work. 

No other information is known at this time.
