Tuolumne County power outage prompts Red Cross emergency shelter to open

TUOLUMNE COUNTY, Calif. — Thousands of people are without power Friday evening, prompting the American Red Cross to open an emergency center to residents. 

Preliminary investigation by PG&E shows the power outage was caused by the weather and has no estimated time of being restored in some parts of the county. PG&E's outage map says they first received alerts about some outages in the county around 4 a.m. Friday.

The outages are mainly impacting the area around Sonora, but Vallecito and Mountain Ranch also have outages. 

Anyone looking for shelter, warmth or other needs can go to the Tuolumne County Enrichment Center at 101 Hospital Road in Sonora. The shelter will be open from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday and the Red Cross says anyone is welcome. 

Other shelter locations open Saturday April 6 include:  

  • Tuolumne County Library 480 Greenley Road, Sonora. Open Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Tuolumne Branch Library 18636 Main Street, Tuolumne. Open Saturday 10 a.m. -2 p.m.
  • Twain Harte Library 18701 Tiffeni Drive #F1, Twain Harte. Open Saturday 10 a.m. -2 p.m.
  • Groveland Library 18990 Highway 120, Groveland. Open Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
