The bus will stop here again.
Turlock citizen Gerda Burian was devastated when Turlock Transit canceled the bus stop in front of the senior living apartment building on East Canal Drive.
"I want my stop back," Burian said in January.
Turlock Transit had streamlined their bus routes, but in doing so, it forced riders like the former Holocaust survivor to walk three blocks to the next nearest stop.
Because she said she her "legs hurt", Burian refused.
However, the city of Turlock left the door open for feedback from the public to adjust the routes again. The city listened and will return the bus stop where Burian lives in front of Crane Terrace Apartments on March 1.
"I'm very happy, I can't believe it. I want to jump up in Heaven," she said.
After listening to the voices and complaints by bus riders the city has had a change of heart.
"We are providing regular fixed service on Route 4, so every 30-35 minutes there will be a bus that will stop in front of Crane Terrace. It's going to allow Gerda and any of the other residents there to interface with any of the other routes we have in the city." said an official with the city.
In addition, the city has added more stops on the city's Route 3 allowing them to get closer to access to medical facilities. The city has also partnered with students at California State University, Stanislaus allowing them to use the bus system year round, anytime, paid for by their student fees.
The city of Turlock said it continues to seek feedback on their bus system and community meetings are scheduled on March 30 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Turlock City Hall.
Though the fight continues, this is a big win for Burian and others.
"I will be the first to use it," she said.
