TURLOCK, Calif. — Four people are dead after a car crash Sunday morning just south of Turlock.
Just before 9:30 a.m., a 2008 Infiniti sedan driven by a 22-year-old Modesto man was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with a 2023 Jeep SUV driven by a 54-year-old Turlock man at the intersection of Highway 165 and Greenway Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Jeep, traveling west on Greenway Avenue, stopped at the stop sign at Highway 165, then entered the intersection directly in front of the Infiniti, which was traveling north on the highway, according to CHP Modesto spokesman Officer Tim Olsen. The front of the Infiniti then struck the left side of the Jeep.
The 22-year-old man was not wearing his seat belt and died at the scene, Olsen said. The 54-year-old man and his right front passenger, a 45-year-old Turlock woman, also succumbed to their injuries at the scene, according to law enforcement.
The Jeep’s left rear passenger, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital but later died from injuries she suffered in the crash, the CHP said. Two additional Jeep passengers, a 19-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, both from Turlock, were taken to the hospital with major injuries.
All Jeep passengers were wearing their seat belts, according to law enforcement. It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
