TURLOCK, Calif. — An 8-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car as he was riding a scooter in Turlock, Wednesday evening.
The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. According to police, the boy was riding a scooter south on Panorama Avenue trying to cross W. Christoffersen Parkway when he was struck by a Toyota sedan driven by an 18-year-old girl.
Several witnesses called 911 and emergency responders soon arrived on the scene. The young boy was taken to a local hospital in critical condition where he later died.
“The Turlock Police Department sends our condolences to the family of all those involved in this tragic incident. [We] will continue to do our best to reduce these incidents from occurring as we work with the public to educate them about safe driving and pedestrian habits,” said Turlock Police Capt. Miguel Pacheco.
According to investigators, the teen driver was heading west on W. Christoffersen Parkway when she hit the boy. Police said they do not believe the teen was impaired and she did not appear to be speeding. No one else was injured in the crash.
