TURLOCK, Calif. — Police received a card-skimming tip Wednesday that led to a man’s arrest in Turlock.
A detective with the Turlock Police Department received a notification from an allied agency regarding a suspect who allegedly installed a card-skimming device in an ATM, police said. The detective used a license plate reader to locate a suspect vehicle in the drive-thru of the Westamerica Bank on Geer Road, authorities said.
Police said they conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for equipment violations.
Marius Onisei, 31, of Stockton, was identified by police and a vehicle search allegedly uncovered over 30 gift cards embedded with multiple accounts of stolen information belonging to different people, according to law enforcement.
Onisei was arrested and transported to the Turlock Police Department for an interview, police said.
Authorities said he was later booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Facility for possession of personal information in excess of 10 or more victims and remains in custody.
Police ask that anyone with information in this case to call 209-668-6571 or 209-668-5550 (extension 6780) or email tpdtipline@turlock.ca.us.
