TURLOCK, Calif. — A man was shot by police in Turlock after allegedly presenting "an object in a threatening manner," officers said Wednesday.
According to the Turlock Police Department, officers initially responded to a call about a suspicious person looking into cars along the 900 block of Vermont Avenue around 5 a.m.
An officer arrived and tried to contact the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Corey Pollard, but police said he ran away. A second officer arrived and both officers called on Pollard to comply, but police said he did not.
Pollard was shot by an officer after he allegedly "presented an object in a threatening manner," according to a news release from Turlock Police Department. It's not clear what the object was at this time and police said they weren't releasing that information due to the active investigation.
Pollard was shot in the shoulder, treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital. He was eventually released and booked into jail on suspicion of resisting arrest and assault on a peace officer.
Police said they seized the "object" Pollard had as evidence.
The officer who shot Pollard wasn't hurt during the incident and is a 10-year law enforcement veteran. The officer is on administrative leave while an investigation takes place.
