TURLOCK, Calif — Electric tea kettles and Crock Pots are the two things on a Turlock school district's wish list as they prepare to help incoming refugees.
The Turlock Unified School District's Family Resource Center is looking to donate the kettles and slow cookers to incoming refugees who are supported by the International Rescue Committee.
"We recently learned from the International Rescue Committee that over the next 10 weeks there will be a' large number of arrivals' to Turlock and the surrounding area," the school district shared on social media.
Calling it the Friendsgiving Program, the district is asking the community to donate the two requested items in addition to the resources like food, clothing and resource referrals, already offered to local families.
The non-profit organization will likely place many in hotel rooms due expensive housing costs and the number of families in need.
Stanislaus County is the third largest placement area in the state. Its website said it has helped more than 7,500 newcomers annually including refugees, asylum-seekers, human trafficking survivors and other immigrants since 1975.
