Two women are dead and a teenager is in jail for manslaughter after a traffic collision in Modesto.

According to a press release from the Modesto Police Department, around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, officers were called to the scene of a vehicle rollover near Tully and Rumble Roads.

Upon arrival, officers found three vehicles involved in the collision. A 16-year-old was driving 2006 Mercedes northbound on Tully Road at a high rate of speed. As the Mercedes approached the intersection of Rumble and Tully Roads, it collided with the passenger side of a 2003 Ford Escape, which was making a left (eastbound) turn onto Rumble Road. The Ford flipped over and came to rest about 168 feet north of the intersection.

The driver, Megan Cooley, 21, of Modesto, was rushed to a hospital where she later died. The passenger, Sherri Cooley, 54, of Modesto, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 16-year-old driver and her two, teen male passengers were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

After the 16-year-old driver was release from the hospital, she was booked into Juvenile Hall for two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while under the influence.
