DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis and Sacramento city officials revealed new details to neighbors last Thursday about the ongoing Aggie Square development at the university's Oak Park campus.
As the development enters its final stages of construction, a total of five buildings and parking structures for 1,500 vehicles will make up the approximately 1.2 million square-foot campus.
Once complete, 60% of Aggie Square will be reserved for use by UC Davis while 40% will be used by private sector businesses including:
- Wexford Science + Technology
- Data and research
- Co-working space, offices, meeting rooms and classrooms.
The housing and market plaza will be home to 190 apartment units, with construction estimated to finish in 2025.
A website to monitor the progress of the city's Community Benefits Partnership Agreement with UC Davis and Wexford Science + Technology is expected to launch next month.
According to the Community Benefits Partnership Agreement, the development of Aggie Square will come with the following benefits for local residents:
- More than $50 million for affordable housing
- Thousands of local construction jobs and employment opportunities on the campus
- Potentially $150,000 per year for neighborhood priorities
- Up to $1.1 million for Broadway and Stockton Boulevard improvements
Wexford Science + Technology is also proposing two art installations at Aggie Square; one in the Lifelong Learning building and another in the Life Sciences, Technology and Engineering East building.
Sacramento's Office of Arts and Culture will lead the outreach and selection process for Sacramento or Yolo County artists. Requests for Qualifications will open in mid-March where two finalists will be selected for each mural.
