UC Davis students capitalize on May Day for Pro-Palestine protest

Student organizers invited students and faculty to cancel, skip or bring their classes to the quad to join them.

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis became the latest college campus to join in solidarity with Palestine, following other campuses across the U.S.

“Who is the revolution? We are the revolution,” organizers chanted Wednesday.

Student organizers told ABC10 they wanted to capitalize on May Day, also known as International Workers Day, for the event. They invited students and faculty to cancel, skip or bring their classes to the quad to join them.

“I think the student movement — in this moment — is unified in … completely historic demands around disclosure of these funds and divestment for academic boycott. Here at UC Davis, which is one of top veterinary schools in the country, we have a longstanding over 20-year partnership with the Hebrew University Koret School of Veterinary Medicine that we want to see closed,” said Stanford McConnehey.

The Associated Students of UC Davis passed a bill to divest their average budget of about $16 million despite there being no movement from the UC system on the issue of divestment.

Event organizers say it’s too soon to know if there will be future events.
