Cooling centers open in Solano County as temperatures hit triple digits

Here's a full list of sites available to people trying to stay cool through Thursday.

SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. — As temperatures are forecast to hit triple digits and the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning through Thursday, multiple cities within Solano County have opened cooling centers.

High temperatures are expected to be in the high 90s and low 100s with lows in the high 60s and low 70s.

Cooling centers are free spaces for anyone looking to avoid the heat. All public libraries in Solano County double as cooling centers during normal business hours but do not allow pets. 

Here's a full list of available sites: 

Benicia

  • Benicia Library - 150 East L St. Wednesday, Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Dixon

  • Dixon Library - 230 N. 1st St. Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Fairfield

  • Fairfield Civic Center Library - 1150 Kentucky St. Wednesday, Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Fairfield Cordelia Library - 5050 Business Center Dr. Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • Law Library - 600 Union Ave. Wednesday, Thursday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Rio Vista

  • Rio Vista Library - 44 South Second St. Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Suisun City

  • Suisun City Library - 601 Pintail Dr. Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Vacaville

  • Ulatis Community Center - Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (City Coach is offering free rides to and from the cooling center during normal operating hours and as space is available.)
  • Vacaville Public Library, Cultural Center - 1020 Ulatis Dr. Wednesday, Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Vacaville Public Library - 1 Town Square Place Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Vallejo

  • Springstowne Library - 1003 Oakwood Ave. Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.  
  • JFK Library - 505 Santa Clara St. Wednesday, Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

If you can't make it to a cooling center or need to cool off after they close, NWS Sacramento suggests these tips for staying safe in the heat: 

  • Stay hydrated 
  • Avoid being outdoors in the sun from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
  • Stay in a cool place, especially during the heat of the day 
  • Use caution around area waterways which are running fast and cold due to snowmelt
  • If you're concerned you might have a heat-related illness, call 911, and they can help determine the best level of care
