Former California Medical Facility corrections officer pleads guilty to accepting bribes from inmates

According to court documents, Stephen Crittenden took more than $45,000 in bribes from 2021-2023 to smuggle phones into the prison.

VACAVILLE, Calif. — A Suisun City man who previously worked as a correctional officer at California Medical Facility in Vacaville pleaded guilty Thursday to bribery.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office Eastern District of California, 44-year-old Stephen Joseph Crittenden accepted more than $45,000 in bribes from inmates to smuggle in cellphones between 2021-23.

Crittenden will be sentenced September 12, 2024, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
