The suspected East Area Rapist, 72-year-old Joseph DeAngelo, will be the focus of a joint news conference Morning between Tulare County District Attorney's Office & Visalia Police.
DeAngelo is facing 12 counts of murder and is currently being held in the Sacramento County Jail. Investigators believe he is the East Area Rapist, also known as the Golden State Killer.
DeAngleo has been tied to but not charged with the so-called Visalia Ransacker crime spree that included dozens of burglaries and the 1975 murder of Claude Snelling.
In April, Visalia Police Chief Jason Salazor told the Visalia Times Delta, "There has long been a belief that the Golden State Killer and Visalia Ransacker are one in the same and we are working with those investigators in hopes of bringing resolution to a case that has long been of interest here in Visalia."
The conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Visalia Emergency Communications Center.
