WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — West Sacramento educator Brian Briggs is overjoyed over being recognized as a 2024 LEGO® Education Ambassador for his use of the building blocks in his educational career.

He told ABC10 the LEGO Education Ambassador program is about teachers and educators across the country spearheading LEGO Education products for use in the classroom.

Using LEGOs can help students better understand computers and coding. It's about thinking outside the box.

"I've been a lifelong LEGO builder, 40+ years. I remember my first LEGO set," Briggs said. "Even when I was in the classroom, I just had the tub that students could use during their center activity time, or during rainy day recess it was great."

He says elementary and middle school is a time for kids to express and play, and it's usually groups of students as opposed to one putting a project together.

"Coming out of pandemic learning where kids were at their computer, now we're being purposeful playing in the curriculum," Briggs said. "I've been on cloud nine ever since (being recognized). I've been pinching myself and my kids are super jealous."

The Washington Unified School District educator is among 78 educators nationwide being recognized as LEGO Education Ambassadors.
