WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A bicyclist died after being hit by a semi-truck in West Sacramento Monday afternoon.
The West Sacramento Police Department said the collision was reported just before 2:30 p.m. in the area of Industrial Boulevard and Stone Boulevard.
Despite efforts from first responders, the bicyclist was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. He was only described as a man in his early 20s.
Police said the driver of the semi cooperated with the investigation, and there is no indication of the driver being under influence of alcohol or drugs.
Citing the statement from the driver, the collision happened while the semi-truck was heading eastbound along Industrial Boulevard and the bicyclist was traveling westbound in the south bike lane. Police said the bicyclist crashed his bike in to the #2 lane of Industrial Boulevard, in front of the semi-truck, and that the driver wasn't able to swerve away in time.
The investigation is ongoing.
