WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — West Sacramento is now home to a popular Bay area coffee roaster.
Blue Bottle Coffee first began moving its roasting facility from Los Angeles to West Sacramento in 2018 when it opened a packaging and shipping facility. West Sacramento was chosen in 2019 because it's "an ideal geographic location to supply" their Northern and Southern California cafes, Nathalie Giller, spokesperson for Blue Bottle Coffee said.
"The new state-of-the-art facility allows Blue Bottle to improve quality control overall, roasting coffees for all West Coast cafes from the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, San Diego, and points in between, as well as for digital subscribers," Giller said.
The move to their West Sacramento location at 836 Riverside Parkway was completed toward the end of 2019. Blue Bottle joins other food industry companies that call West Sacramento home such as Drakes at the Barn, La Crosta, Identity Coffee Westside, Tree House Café, and Bike Dog Brewing.
"We have a growing cluster of food industry businesses, including Nor-Cal Beverage, Tony’s Fine Foods and Bogle Winery," Diane Richards, economic development manager with the city of West Sacramento, said.

Richards said the city is an ideal place for companies due to its central location and access to major highways. And with the city expanding its mixed-used developments, more and more people and businesses are taking notice.
"We’re really a well-rounded city that’s growing and adding amenities. We have a lot of new housing coming in... new condos and hotels being built. We have a couple of new restaurants that are really doing well," Richards said.
Richards said the city offers a lot of services to businesses and developers who want to establish themselves in West Sacramento, which can lead to employment opportunities for residents. In Blue Bottle Coffee's case, that meant hiring 10 local employees.
"The economic benefit is that we’re continuing to create jobs for residents to have a career ladder," Richards said.
As far as Blue Bottle opening a cafe in the West Sacramento area, Giller said there are no plans to open one at the moment.
Editor's Note: This story previously said Blue Bottle Coffee moved from its headquarters from Oakland to West Sacramento. Blue Bottle's headquarters still remain in Oakland. The company moved its roasting facility from Los Angeles to West Sacramento.
