West Sacramento woman gets 3 years in prison for hitting loss prevention officer with candle

A 2022 assault of a loss prevention officer led to 28-year-old West Sacramento resident Traireese Jones being sentenced to 3 years in jail.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A West Sacramento woman was sentenced Friday to 3 years in prison for assaulting a loss prevention officer during a retail theft.

Yolo County District Attorney's officials say 28-year-old Traireese Jones was shoplifting at Raley's when a loss prevention officer tried to grab the store bag filled with items she was carrying.

Jones then reportedly hit the officer in the face with a glass-candle she was stealing, leaving the officer bleeding profusely from his forehead as she ran from the scene.

Police later found and arrested her at a nearby motel.

After she was released from jail, she failed to appear at a scheduled hearing. She was later arrested in Sacramento County after allegedly trying to steal from another store.

Jones was eventually convicted of a felony conspiracy to commit theft, failure to appear, second degree robbery with personal use of a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.
