What are the housing developments behind the recent tree removal in south Sacramento?

Sacramento residents say they were shocked to see trees from a veterans' memorial be chopped down, but how many potential homes are being developed there?

SACRAMENTO, Calif — South Sacramento residents say they were upset to see part of the Delta's history torn down in the middle of the night to make way for a new housing development.

But what exactly is planned to be developed in the area? We took a closer look.

Sacramento-based company KB Home is planning to develop 110 housing units on the alley lots of the Delta Shores West Area on 8145 Freeport Blvd.

Known as 'Riva at Delta Shores', developers are planning for single-family homes in an area they say is zoned for the Sacramento City Unified School District.

The 87-acre plot of grassland will also be home to a neighboring development from KB Homes known as 'Edgewater at Delta Shores' with 81 housing units, bringing the total planned units on the site to 191.

While the city of Sacramento approved KB Home to remove a total of 41 oak trees in the area, it was with the contingency they would replace 21 of them, 12 specifically with oaks.

Developers also left alone nine private protected trees identified in an arborist report done by California Tree and Landscape Consulting.
