Apache Fire in Butte County: Evacuations ordered for fire with dangerous rate of spread

The Butte County Sheriff's Office has issued evacuation orders due to the blaze.

Firefighters are battling the so-called Apache Fire in Butte County as it burns at a dangerous rate of spread Monday night.

According to Cal Fire, the wildfire is in the area of Apache Hill Road and Crestmont Avenue in the community of Palermo. It's burned about 650 acres so far. The fire started around 7:21 p.m.

The fire has produced two spot fires, accounting for roughly 50 acres combined. A Cal Fire spokesperson said at least two structures have burned.

Cal Fire is calling on people to avoid the area. The Butte County Sheriff's Office has issued evacuation orders that can be seen below.

Evacuations

The Butte County Sheriff's Office has called for evacuations in the following areas:

  • Zone 865
  • Zone 866
  • Zone 868
  • Zone 869
  • All of Zone 884
  • South side of Grubbs Rd. between Crossa Country Rd. and Alta Arosa Dr in zones 884 and 885 in Palermo
  • Dustin Lane from Crossa Country Rd, south to Louis Ave. and Louis Ave. east of Dustin Lane in Zone 884
  • Knob Hill Ave, Cricket Lane, Butte Vista Lane, and Butte Vista Rd in Zone 886 in Palermo

An evacuation warning was put in place for Zone 883 in Palermo and all of Zone 867. Cal Fire also announced evacuation warnings for BUT-OSE-826, BUT-PAL-868 and BUT-PAL-883.

An evacuation shelter is available at Gridley Fairgrounds at 199 East Hazel Street. Nazarene Church in Oroville was closed due to the proximity of the fire. The Del Oro Small Animal Shelter is available at 156 Mono Avenue in Oroville. The Large Animal Shelter is available at Camelot at 1985 Clark Road.

WILDFIRE PREPS

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
