SIERRA COUNTY, Calif. — People are repopulating some parts of Sierra County though some evacuations remain as the Bear Fire continues to burn Friday.
The Sierra County Sheriff's Office said the Sierra Brooks community would be able to repopulate around 4 p.m. Thursday. Additional evacuation information can be found below.
The fire has grown to 3,325 acres and is 15% contained. The wildfire was reported around 2 p.m. Monday off Bear Valley Road south of the Sierra Brooks community, according to the U.S. Forest Service for the Tahoe National Forest.
The Sierra County Sheriff's Office said Sierra County Social Services is available to address people's emergency needs. People can also call 530-993-6700 for a list of lodging options and other resources.
The Sierra-Plumas Joint Unified School District said classes are canceled for the rest of the week for all Loyalton schools due to the fire. This includes Loyalton High School and Loyalton Elementary School. The district said it's offering free breakfast and lunch for all Loyalton students on Friday. Find pickup information HERE. The football game scheduled for Friday has been canceled. Updates will be posted on the district's Facebook page and sent out through email, text and an automated call system.

Wildfire Preps
If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.
The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
