Boyles Fire in Clearlake: Some evacuation orders remain as fire destroys structures, cars

Officials said about 30 structures were destroyed in the fire along with 40-50 vehicles. Damage assessment is ongoing.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. — Some evacuation orders remain as the Boyles Fire burns in Lake County.

Cal Fire said the wildfire sparked Sunday near Dam Road and Boyles Avenue in Clearlake. It was reported around 2:15 p.m.

According to Cal Fire, the fire is around 76 acres in size. The fire is 30% contained.

Officials said about 30 structures were destroyed in the fire. Damage assessment is ongoing. Fire officials said about 40 to 50 vehicles were lost in the fire as well.

Spot fires have been one of the challenges for crews during the firefight.

"Every time we turned around there was a new spot fire. And it's not a straight line to get from Point A to Point B. It was a challenge just to get those people evacuated," Lake County Fire Protection District Chief William Sapeta previously told ABC10.

"There were literally hundreds of spot fires coming off of this," he added.

No injuries have been reported.

State Senator Mike McGuire said all of the financial burden for the Boyles Fire falls on the city of Clearlake, but they are trying to secure a grant for reimbursement.

"There is no other county in the state of California that has been impacted by wildland fire more than Lake County. It is devastating. But over 60% of Lake County's landmass has burned since 2015. Tonight, our prayers are with the neighbors here in Clearlake and the residents of Lake County," McGuire said.

Gov. Gavin Newsom confirmed Sunday night the Fire Management Assistance Grant was secured to help with the fire.

“California is grateful for the Biden Administration’s ongoing support as our heroic firefighters and first responders work night and day to contain these challenging fires. We’ll continue to work closely with our local and federal partners to safeguard lives and protect property,” Newsom said in a statement.
